Why do most cycling apparel manufacturers continue to ignore women cyclists’ needs?

Inverse designs and manufactures cycling shorts with women cyclists in mind

In our new Summer 2025 collection, Inverse has created the new ARLET bib shorts (with straps) and the BIRA bib shorts (strapless): two models designed by women cyclists, for women cyclists.

If you’re a woman cyclist and you’ve been riding for a long time, it must have happened to you more than once: that feeling of growing discomfort during the hours in the saddle, the torture of having to deal with uncomfortable shorts every time you have to take a bathroom break, and the anger of feeling that although women’s cycling is growing, even today many brands tend to design clothing based on male patterns, as if adapting the size to fit women were the only adjustment necessary.

Women’s anatomy, their physiology, and their real needs… are all still left out of the equation in many brands of cycling apparel. But fortunately, there are some exceptions, such as our brand. Inverse has boosted its R&D department with an expert team of women cyclists who design cycling apparel for women cyclists. Products like the new bib shorts in the Summer 2025 collection from Inverse: the Arlet (with straps) and the Bira (without straps) are the result of designing cycling apparel with women cyclists in mind.

Designed for real comfort: going to the bathroom has never been so easy for women cyclists

We believe Inverse has done something very simple and yet very revolutionary: it has asked women cyclists to design bib shorts. What was the result? Bib shorts that truly understand what it means to spend hours on the bike, go out on long-distance rides or race, and the need for clothing that meets the standards of women cyclists… and their comfort.

One of the biggest breakthroughs in Inverse’s new cycling shorts has been to make toilet breaks easy without the rider having to remove strip all the way down. In the Arlet model, the Flexygo 2.0 cross straps system at the back with an ergonomic and elastic design means that the bib shorts can be lowered quickly and comfortably, without any drama or acrobatics.

And for women cyclists who prefer even more simplicity, the Bira bib shorts are designed for those looking for even more freedom of movement and ease during quick stops.

One of the PRO cyclists who tested our new cycling apparel said that “someone has finally remembered that going to the bathroom shouldn’t be a technical problem in the twenty-first century!”

Beyond comfort: performance and aesthetics to fall in love with

But comfort is not the only factor that the women cyclists who have tested Inverse’s new cycling bib shorts have highlighted. The Arlet and the Bira bib shorts are made from ultralight, highly elastic and breathable fabrics. What does that mean? They are a perfect fit for the female body, providing optimal muscle compression that improves performance and delays fatigue, while wicking away sweat effectively to keep you cool and dry.

Their aesthetic is another strong point: pure minimalism, elegant and sober, perfect for both cyclists who like to cut a dash, and those who prefer to go unnoticed.

The Arlet bib shorts are available in various colours which are a delight:

  • Molo (a beautiful and original shade of green)
  • Brownie (dark brown, very sophisticated)
  • Black (a classic black for all occasions)

And in all models, the silicone band on the inside of the leg warmers ensures that they always stay in place without being tight or uncomfortable.

The Elastic Interface chamois pad – especially for women

The ARLET bib shorts feature the latest generation Elastic Interface chamois pad, specially designed for the female anatomy.
It provides the utmost protection on long routes, excellent breathability and prevents chafing, taking good care of the most sensitive areas, even after hours of pedalling.

Inverse: compromiso real con las mujeres ciclistas

We reaffirm our commitment with the new ARLET and BIRA bib shorts: to creating women’s cycling apparel that is not an adaptation, but instead a true evolution.
Because women cyclists deserve technical outfits that respect their bodies, enhance their performance and match their passion for cycling.

At Inverse, we design for you. So that you can really pedal.
